Building Excellence, Maintaining Trust
Our Story
I started McRoberts Construction in 2010 after getting laid off from the general construction company I had been working for. Before that, I had spent years working in general construction, so I was pretty much a jack of all trades. I could do a little bit of everything, and I wasn’t afraid to figure something out when I hadn’t done it before.
After I was laid off, people I knew started calling and asking if I could help with different projects. My first job was a basement remodel for a good friend of my parents. From there, it just kind of grew. One job turned into another, and another.
In the beginning, I wasn’t trying to build a concrete company. I was just taking care of whatever people called me for. I started doing sidewalks, then another sidewalk, then another. Eventually, I realized that concrete was becoming a bigger and bigger part of what I was doing.
I started working out of my garage and even used some space at the shop of the contractor I had previously worked for. About six or seven years later, I was able to buy that building after he retired. It was a pretty big step from where I had started.
Over the years McRoberts Construction has continued to grow and become more focused on concrete. Today, we do everything from flatwork and decorative concrete to concrete coatings, flake floors, countertops, and some pretty unusual projects.
One thing I’ve always believed, is that if someone asks us to build something, we’ll figure it out. Small, big, or weird — that’s kind of what we do. Sometimes the weird projects are the most fun.
We’ve built things like two-foot-tall curbs, custom fire pits, and projects where we had to figure out drainage and water flow. We’ve also started molding our own boards and pouring concrete into them to create custom signs, tables, fire pits, and other pieces — all made from concrete.
I started this business by myself, and today I have about five people who help me on a regular basis. We’ve continued to expand what we can offer and about two years ago we added SureCrete and TK Products to the business. That allowed us to get further into concrete coatings, decorative finishes, and other specialty concrete products.
I don’t know that I ever had a big master plan for McRoberts Construction. It started with getting laid off, people calling me for work, and me being willing to take on the next project and that’s really still the way I look at it today.
We’re craftsmen. We like figuring things out. Whether a project is small, big, or a little unusual, we’ll do our best to find a way to make it work.
At the end of the day, I just want to keep doing good work, keep growing, and most importantly, keep making people happy with what we build.
